Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The collection is a unique set of images that includes a significant representation of Indian art and architecture from the dynastic periods through the early 1960s, as well as art from Cambodia, Burma, Thailand, and Indonesia. It also contains photographs from various Indian and South Asian museums, photographs by the American Council for Southern Asian Art (ACSAA), Jagdish Mittal, Barbara Wagner, and Michael W. Meister. The images were probably made for the classes he taught, during various trips to India and South Asia from the 1950s to 2000. The final series in the collection (denoted by the double-letter label, for example "AA1") includes art from Asian museums, including the National Museum of India in New Delhi, as well as art by contemporary Indian artists.
