Historical NoteReturn to Top
Harstine Island is located in Mason County, Washington. It is a forested island in southern Puget Sound, 10 miles north of Olympia. The second largest island in the Puget Sound, it was named for Lt. Henry J. Harstein, a U.S. Navy territorial explorer. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the island's population is about 1,000 people.
