Most of the correspondence is from Kentucky relatives to family members living in Oregon. There is one letter dated 1857, from a grandmother in her 97th year, writing to her grandson.
Family members include Mary A. Durham and her husband John Duram, who traveled overland to Oregon in 1846, as a part of the wagon train with Elder Glen O. Burnett.
Papers include an obituary of Mary A. Durham and her husband John Duram, which lists the names and locations of their eight children. There are also telegrams regarding a mother who was ill, and one telegram states, "Come immediately if you want to see your mother alive."
There are also a few sheets of handwritten poetry.
Also in the collection is a newspaper clipping (1925) of an interview with John Henry Durham (born 1853, in Polk County, Oregon), son of Mary and John Durham. The clipping describes his parents' overland journey, life and business in Polk County, and in Pendleton, Oregon. The clipping also states that his parents had eleven children.
