Content DescriptionReturn to Top
The Robert Marsham diary (1864-1865) consists of a photocopy of the original diary. Marsham was a well-known explorer, and in this diary he describes his travels in Northern California, British Columbia, Yosemite, Idaho, Utah, the Sandwich Islands, and the Far East. In August of 1864 Marsham met the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), Brigham Young, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marsham reflects on this experience by describing the layout of the buildings, among which are the Beehive House and the Lion House. These buildings were then surrounded by a stone wall. Also at this time, the foundation for the original Tabernacle Conference Hall was being laid out. Marsham writes that the Tabernacle will be a magnificent building when it is finished.
