- The Cochranism collection (circa 1816-1983) consists of photocopied primary and secondary sources on the life of Jacob Cochran and the sect which he founded, including photocopies of legal documents. Also included is correspondence to various libraries and institutions seeking information on Jacob Cochran and Cochranism, particularly on whether any members of the Cochran sect later joined the LDS Church.

Jacob Cochran was a Maine preacher who started his own religious sect, advocating rebaptism and opposing marriage. He was imprisoned for adultery in 1819 and the sect soon died out.

The Cochranism collection (circa 1816-1983) consists of photocopies of articles, history excerpts, and court documents regarding Jacob Cochran and the religious sect he founded in 1816. These materials were collected by Don McDermott, a graduate student at the University of Utah, while he was conducting research to determine if any of the Cochran sect later joined the LDS Church.
