Thomas Gilsdorf is a recipient of the Jacobs Research Fund grant. He received a grant to study Ethnomathematics with the Purepecha in 2011.

Linguistic research on "Ethnomathematics of the Purepecha", includes interview transcripts with 18 individuals of the Purepecha culture and one audio recording containing the interviews of three of these individuals. The interview content focused on artwork and mathematics. The audio disk also contains Word Documents and PDFs of Gilsdorf's field notes.
