- Ham Kautzman was editor and publisher of various small newspapers in Oregon, including the Columbia-Herald (St. Helens), Herald (Houlton), Pacific-Herald (Waldport) and Tualatin Valley News (Sherwood). Papers include correspondence and other documents, 1920-1922, regarding Kautzman's newspaper business and his dispute with Columbia County District Attorney Glen R. Metsker, involving statements made by Kautzman in the Herald during a recall effort against Metsker, and Kautzman's subsequent conviction on libel charges. Also included are ephemera relating to dances and Republican elections, circa 1870-1872.
