The bulk of this collection consists of budgets, building files, correspondence, internal audits, memoranda, minutes, and reports from the administrations of Dee Andersen (1974-1976), Stanford Bohne (1977), and Walt Gnemi (1977-1992). This collection also contains some material from the administrations of Brigham Madsen (1967-1972) and Ted E. Davis (1973-1974).

In 1973 the offices of Administrative Vice President and Financial Vice President were merged together to form the Office of Vice President for Administrative Services. Brigham D. Madsen was Administrative Vice President from 1967 until 1972. Ted E. Davis, who was Financial Vice President from 1969 to 1973, served as the First Vice President for Administrative Services from 1973 to June 1974. Dee Andersen replaced him in July 1974 and filled that position until December 1976. Stanford Bohne succeeded Andersen and served as Vice President from February to August of 1977. Walt Gnemi became the Vice President for Administrative Services in September of 1977 and held the office until 1992.

The first series of this collection consists of budgets, correspondence, internal audits, memoranda, minutes, reports, and other records related to the duties and operations of the Office of Vice President for Administrative Services for the administrations of Dee Andersen (1974-1976), Stanford Bohne (1977), and Walt Gnemi (1977-1992). These records primarily document the Vice President's oversight of the daily operations of Auxiliary Services, Campus Planning, Computer Center, Finance Department, Information Systems, Personnel, Public Safety, and Research Park. This collection also documents the Vice President's interactions with other departments of the University of Utah as well as local, state, and national organizations and government entities.

Departments within administrative services oversaw their own subordinate divisions. Auxiliary Services supervised the Golf Course, the Jon M. Huntsman Center, Parking Services, University Bookstore, University Food Services, University Student Apartments, and University Ushering. The Finance Department included the office of Controller which oversaw Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Income Accounting, Student Loans, and Travel; Government Accounting which managed the operations of Research Accounting, Property Management, and Payroll; Purchasing and Receiving; Investments and Cash Management; and Risk Management. Information Systems oversaw the operations of Printing Services and Telecommunications. The Director of Research Park also supervised the Office of Land Administration.

The records in the second series are primarily from the departments of Plant Operations and Campus Planning and document the construction, renovation, maintenance, use, and-in some cases-the destruction of buildings and structures, landscape features, utility systems, and parcels of land on the campus of the University of Utah.
