Historical NoteReturn to Top
Frederick C. Proehl (1880-1970) was born in Minnesota. Shortly after the turn of the century he entered the banking business, and a few years later, he opened his own bank in Lincoln, Minnesota. In 1936, he was appointed a deputy bank examiner. In 1942, he left banking and became a clerk and time-keeper with Boeing in Seattle, Washington. He also owned a grocery store in Seattle.
Proehl was active in the Greenback Party, a political group which counted 200 dues paying members nationally in 1960. The party was primarily interested in money reform.
Proehl was nominated for the Presidency by his party in 1952 and 1956. Proehl ran his campaign from the back room of his neighborhood grocery store in Seattle. He garnered three votes in the 1956 election.
