Historical BackgroundReturn to Top
Karamin is a small community on Curlew Creek north of Curlew Lake in northeast Ferry County. It was named for the Karamin Lumber Company, which once operated there. The Karamin Lumber Company was established north of Curlew Lake. According to the 1913, volume 51 of the National Lumberman, the plant took over the stock and assets of L. R. Wilson Lumber Company and was managed by J. H. Benson. The company was admitted into the Western Pine Manufacturers' Association in August of 1910. The exact dates of the company establishment and shutdown are unknown, but it is mentioned in an appellate court case as early as 1908 and in public documents until at least 1917.
