Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Aldrich (1903-1998) was born on 13 September 1903 in Narsinghpur, India. He studied at Oxford College and the Sorbonne before receiving his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley in 1931. Aldrich taught philosophy at Rice University, Columbia University, Kenyon College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the director of the American Studies Institute in Kyoto, Japan, as well as president of the American Philosophical Association (APA) and the American Society for Aesthetics. He retired in 1973 and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he became an adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of Utah. He died on 28 May 1998.
