Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Sisters Emma A. and Mae Snyder, born in 1871 and 1867 respectively, were residents of Baltimore, Maryland, for the majority, if not the entirety of their lives. Apparently never married, the sisters both worked at the public schools (Emma taught at high schools) for at least thirty years during the opening decades of the twentieth century. Though it is not known what subjects the sisters taught, it is known that Emma at least taught drawing classes. When the sisters undertook their July/August 1941 trip to western historic sites and national parks, they were likely retired and took the trip with Burlington Escorted Tours because of the educational aspect of a guided tour. Mae Snyder, the older of the two, passed away in 1950 and Emma in 1965.
