Historical NoteReturn to Top
Theodore T. Geer (1851-1924) served in the Oregon state House of Representatives in 1880, and again in 1889 until 1893. He was elected governor of Oregon, and served from January 9, 1899 until January 14, 1903.
During his first year as governor, Geer wrote a letter to Fred T. Merrill and Company in which he described his work, his desire to exercise, and ordered a bicycle from the company.

In the letter of February 14, 1899, Geer wrote that he found office work confining, and that he had decided to exercise on a bicycle. He ordered a "Rambler" from the company.
