Marjorie Ellen Madsen Riley (1906-1987) was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Andrew O. and Rozena Fechser Madsen. She received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Utah and a master's degree in Library Science from the University of Denver. She worked as a librarian at Snow College and at several Salt Lake City schools and was the first Utah Army Librarian appointed in the Ninth Service Command during World War II. She married Howard Henry Riley in 1943.
