The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP) is part of the Department of Health Services at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine. NWCPHP was originally founded in 1990. The Center's mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of public health practice by linking the academic and practice communities in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Staff develop, produce, and market content and training for practice-based continuing education, as well as provide technical assistance to state and local health departments for special projects, such as program evaluation, needs assessments, and training workshops.
NWCPHP is one of 44 Centers for Public Health Preparedness, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Associated Schools of Public Health, and one of 14 Public Health Training Centers, with funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration. NWCPHP also includes affiliated centers and projects that provide support and training in the areas of environmental health, clinical laboratories, pharmaceuticals, and public health informatics.
