Biographical NoteReturn to Top

During the late 1920s and 1930s, Utah experienced a number of serious floods. The most disastrous occurred between Salt Lake City and Weber Canyon in 1930-1932. The seriousness of the floods prompted Governor George Dern to apppoint a special commission to investigate in Davis County. Realizing that there were many areas affected by floods, the commission recommended provisions be made for a survey of floods throughout Utah. A special fund was appropriated by the Legislature and a study of flood control was produced by the State Land Board in 1933.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

As a result of the serious damage caused to homes, farmlands, and railroads by the floods of the 1920s and 1930s, Governor Dern appointed a special committee to study the problem. Their findings may be seen in part in the photographs which demonstrate the extent of the flood damage throughout Utah in 1933.
