Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Rodney L. Glisan (April 3rd, 1869 - 1934) of Portland, Or, was the son of Dr. Rodney Glisan, and Elizabeth R. Couch, a daughter of the founder of Portland. He received a law degree and practiced primarily in the area of realty and estates. He was active in local politics and was an amateur photographer. He was an active member of the Mazamas club, a Portland based mountaineering club founded in 1894 and served as the seventh president of the organization. In the early 1900's the Mazamas club organized a major hike every year.

The collection consists of 2 albums documenting trips by the Mazamas. The first album documents a 1905 Mazamas hike up Mount Rainier. The second album documents their 1906 climb up Mount Baker. Several of the photographs were published in their mountain climbing periodical "The Mazamas" with a story that documented the trip. Includes images of glaciers, crevasses and ice formations. All photographs were taken by Rodney Glisan.
