Historical NoteReturn to Top

Floyd O'Neil was born on 14 July 1927, and spent his childhood in the Uintah Basin. He attended Carbon College before moving on to the University of Utah, where he was awarded a B.S. in History in 1957 and a Ph.D in History in 1973. He served as director of the American West Center from 1986 to 1996, and is currently Director Emeritus of that organization.

This box contains records of a court case between the Ute tribe and the State of Utah versus the Timpanogos Shoshones. The latter group was made up largely of terminated mixed-blood Utes. The judge found their claim to be so thin that summary judgement was given denying their claim.
