	 <abstract label="Abstract"> The Iris Gilmore collection contains manuscripts and research files for several books written by her. Most of the topics relate to Colorado history including the Ute Indians. Also included are biographical files of Benjamin West and Anna Broady Haggard. There is a small amount of information about early radio shows on KOA Radio in Denver, and there are photographs of Wyoming Senator Joseph C. O'Mahoney.</abstract>

	 <head>Biography of Iris Gilmore</head>
  	
  	<p>Iris Pavey Gilmore was an author of more than a dozen books, many of which were non-fictional books for juveniles. She also wrote several books related to Colorado topics and history. She co-authored most of her works with Marian Talmadge. Iris Gilmore was born in Illinois in 1900 and received a B.A. in education and drama in 1921 and an M.A. in 1944 from the University of Denver. She was a writer and player for radio shows on Denver’s popular radio station, KOA, in the 1920s and 1930s. She also was involved with children’s theater and dance in Denver, and she taught speech and English at the University of Denver. She was married to Harold Gilmore and had one daughter. Mrs. Gilmore died in 1982 in Denver.</p>

	 <head>Scope and Content</head>
  	
  	<p>The Iris Gilmore papers contain manuscripts and research notes of several of her books including fiction works as well as non-fiction. Non-fiction topics relate to Colorado including the history of the Pikes Peak region and of the Ute Indians and Chief Ouray. There is information about her relative Benjamin West, a well-known early American painter. There is some information related to Gilmore’s activity with KOA Radio. Also included is a biographical file of Anna Broady Haggard, a Cheyenne socialite and former University of Wyoming trustee, and there are photographs of Wyoming Senator Joseph C. O’Mahoney and his wife Agnes. Copies of some of her books are included.</p>
