The Washington State Council of Farmer Cooperatives (formerly the Washington State Cooperative Council) was first organized on September 25, 1936, at the Western Washington Research and Extension Center (WWREC) in Puyallup. The charter membership consisted of 45 cooperative leaders representing 35 farmer-owned or -controlled marketing and purchasing organizations. The original impetus for organizing the Council was to encourage and promote a closer mutual relationship between all farmer cooperative business associations in Washington and to provide a mechanism for state agricultural legislation advocacy. The Washington State Council of Farmer Cooperatives is a non-profit organization and a member of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. (see Cage 445)

This collection consists of records and publications of the Washington State Council of Farmer Cooperatives. It includes correspondence, annual meeting minutes and programs, newsletters, election records, budgets, and documentation of an Internal Revenue Service audit. It was received in multiple installments (MS 1987-38, MS 1988-40, MS 2010-08).

This is an unprocessed collection. Arrangement reflects a pre-existing order from the records’ creators or previous custodians.

It also includes meeting programs for the Accountants for Cooperatives (1962-1970). MS 1988-40 2 1963-1964: This accesion consists of correspondence with members, state legislators, the U.S. Treasury Department, and with legal representatives about an Internal Revenue Service audit. MS 2010-08 3 1977-1997: This accesion consists primarily of printed materials. It includes copies of the council's newsletter, Capital Notes, from 1978 to 1997, and the newsletter Councilor News, from 1978 to 1980. The collection also contains programs from some of the council's annual meetings from 1981 to 1991, government documents pertaining to a special state fuel tax for farm diesel, and membership directories.
