         <p>Alvin Zaring was born in 1838 in Indiana. He married Mercy Zaring, with whom he moved to Walla Walla, Washington, worked as a farmer, and had eight children, Mary, Eli, Ella, John, Martha, Emily, Joseph, and Ray. He died in November, 1929, several years after he married his second wife Lillian Zaring.</p>

         <p>The Zaring Family Photographs contains photographs of Whitman College, Washington and Oregon landscapes, portraits, as well as deeds, receipts, programs, a scrapbook, and a diary documenting the events of the Zaring family business.</p>
