      <head>Historical Note</head>
      <p>The Missoula Country Club is a private club established in 1917 in
		  Missoula, Mont., at the base of Mount Sentinel where The University of Montana
		  golf course is now located. Construction began on the Club's current location
		  southwest of Missoula near Fort Missoula and the Bitterroot River in 1927, and
		  the Club opened for play in 1928. </p>

      <p>The photographs in this collection are of, and related to, the
		  Missoula Country Club. Included in this collection are photographs of Club
		  members and tournament players, including the Barnett family, Helen Shroeder
		  Tremper, and others. Also included are images of the original nine hole course,
		  original clubhouse, starter house, tournament group photographs, and the flood
		  of 1938 that covered the club course.</p>
