      <p>Clarice Short (1910-1977) grew up in New Mexico and in 1946 began teaching English at the University of Utah as an assistant professor. She remained there until 1974. Short has published two books of poetry, <title render="italic">The Owl on the Aerial</title> and <title render="italic">The Old One and the Wind</title>. In 1970, Short became the teacher and mentor of poet Emma Lou Thayne who helped ensure the posthumous publication of <title render="italic">The Owl on the Aerial</title>.</p>

Oftentimes, the entries are a quotation Short heard or read, a thought, an observation, or an idea for a poem. Folder 4 contains postcards, programs, pamphlets, notes, currency, and letters from the journal in folder 3.</p>

            <p>Folder four consists of letters between Clarice and family members, friends, editors, and universities. Folders five and six contain correspondence between Clarice Short and her parents while she lived in Dodge City, Kansas, and her parents lived in Toas, New Mexico. Folder seven contains letters to her friend Norma. There are also numerous poems included in the folder.</p>
