NAS Klamath Falls was established in 1942, during WWII, from the Klamath Falls Municipal Airport. The airport had been originally established for civilian use in 1928. The U.S. Navy returned the Naval Air Station back to civilian use in 1945. In 1954, the airport was once again designated for military use, this time for the U.S. Air Force. Air Defense Command dedicated the naval-turned-air base as Kingsley Field in 1957. In 1978, the Department of Defense reassigned Kingsley Field to the Air National Guard, where the Oregon Air National Guard have operated it ever since.
NAAF Lakeview operated under the command of NAS Klamath Falls. It was established in 1944 and contained assembly and repair facilities.
