Sheila Schwartz (1929- ) was an English professor at State University of New York, New Paltz. She wrote adolescent literature and also completed "The Hollywood Writers' Wars" (1981) begun by her daughter, Nancy Lynn Schwartz. She also wrote "Like Mother, Like Me" (1978), a novel which Nancy made into a screenplay. Sheila later was a documentary film maker, producing "The Children of Izieu" in 1993, among others.
The collection contains correspondence, 1944-2007; manuscripts of articles by Sheila Schwartz, 1974-2008, including "The Active Retiree," 2004; and some partial book manuscripts. There are copies of several of her books: "Bigger is Better" (1987), "Denise" (1988) in German, and "Like Mother, Like Me" (1978). Book reviews for "Hollywood Writers' War" and "The Solid Gold Circle," among others, are included. There are some photographs and files reflecting Schwartz's academic and creative work, including research files for a science fiction short story collection dating from 1970 to 1975.
There are no access restrictions on the materials for research purposes, and the collection is open to the public.
The donor retains copyright for materials in the collection.

Consists of notes, correspondence, and manuscripts related to Schwartz's career as an author. Both fiction and non-fiction writing is included, as is material written by other authors with comments by Schwartz annotated on the text. The notes and correspondence are organized by the book they refer to.
Copies of newspaper clippings, journal articles, press releases, and conference papers either written by or referring to Sheila Schwartz.
Photographs and slides, both loose and in envelopes, mostly related to Schwartz's personal life. A large portion of the photographs are of vacations Schwartz took. A few professional photographs are included as well. Several of the photographs are of Schwartz and her family when she was growing up.
Consists of recordings of speeches made by Schwartz, as well as video tapes of her 1993 documentary "The Children of Izieu" and the CBS television movie "Like Mother, Like Me," which was based on a book Schwartz wrote.
Contains scrapbooks of materials related to Schwartz's personal life and professional career, as well as certificates of award she received throughout her life, among other materials.
