Paul Robeson (1898-1976) was a bass baritone singer, actor, athlete, political activist, and lawyer. He earned an academic scholarship to Rutgers College where he was twice awarded the All-American title in football. In 1922, he graduated from Columbia Law School. Throughout his music career, he performed on Broadway, starred in movies, and recorded 276 distinct songs. He became passionate about political activism during the Spanish Civil War, and became a vocal activist during WWII.
