    <bioghist encodinganalog="5450_">
      <p>Irene M. Heinrich (1910-1999) and Ilene I. Heinrich (1910-1999) were twin sisters who grew
        up near Cheney, Washington. They attended Washington State College from 1929 to 1933. Both
        earned bachelor's degrees, Irene in Home Economics and Ilene in Zoology.</p>
    </bioghist>
    <scopecontent encodinganalog="5202_">
      <p>This collection consists mainly of letters from sisters Irene and Ilene Heinrich to their
        family in Spokane. They reported extensively on their experiences as Washington State
        College students, writing about their classes and professors, labs, social and cultural
        events, their friends and acquaintances, and campus jobs they took to help pay their
        educational expenses during the early years of the Great Depression. Both sisters were
        residents of Erani House.</p>
      <p>In addition to the sisters' letters home, the collection includes one letter from their
        mother, Katherine Heinrich of Spokane, papers related to the Erani Club, memorabilia, and
        photographs, including photographs of Ilene and Irene Heinrich and a student group portrait
        taken on the steps of Senior Hall.</p>

        Murray Brian Jencks, Irene Jencks's son, donated these materials to the Washington State
        University Libraries in 2012 (MS 2012-12). Murray Brian Jencks also made additional
        donations in 2020 (MS 2020-13). </p>
