Biography or History of Beach Conger

Beach Conger was an American journalist, considered a travel writer, editorialist, and foreign correspondent during the 1930s to the 1960s. In the 1930s he worked as a travel writer for World Letters, Inc., a company that developed an educational program to make social studies and geography come to life in the class room through letter writing. As a travel writer for World Letters, Inc., Conger traveled to Europe and Asia from1933-1934 and Central and South America in 1936. Each week he would write and send a letter to a subscriber documenting his travels, experiences, and the way of life in other countries; the recipients then collected the letters, related photographs, and foreign stamps in special albums. In 1936 he began working for the "New York Herald Tribune" as an editorial writer and in 1939 he became a foreign correspondent to Europe; serving in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Budapest, and other European capitals before and during World War II.
