Judge William G. Long (1894-1974) was appointed to the King County
Juvenile Court in 1933 by Governor Martin. He served on both the King County
Juvenile Court and the Superior Court from 1940-1970. Much of his service
focused on fighting juvenile delinquency and other youth issues. He was
considered the "father" of the King County Youth Service Center and helped with
the formation of the Seattle-King County Metropolitan Youth Commission. He
received many honors throughout his distinguished career, including the Wing
Luke Award in 1966 by the Seattle-King County Youth Commission in recognition
of his superior service in the field of youth development.

In 1937, Judge Long, along with Archie Phelps and Ben Evans, worked
together to create Camp Long, a park in West Seattle that was designed to give
organized scouting groups a place to learn camping skills. Camp Long opened to
the public in 1984. Judge Long also had a weekly 15-minute radio program on
KIRO called "The Judge's Notebook," which focued on the local juvenile justice
system. Judge Long lived in West Seattle with his wife, Maude, and his
children, William, Alva, Louise, and Marion. He died on January 3, 1974.
