English . 1

George Christian Riser (1818-1892) was born on 16 July 1818, at Kornwesthime, Württemberg, Germany, a son of Christopher Casper Riser and Barbara Hoffman. He immigrated to America in 1831, was baptized in 1842, in the Mississippi River by Elder Albert Brown, and went to Utah in 1846. He was called on a mission to Europe in 1852, arriving in Liverpool, England in 1853. After visiting some of the branches in England, he went to the German Mission in 1854. He was arrested and imprisoned for preaching the gospel in August 1854, and not being allowed to continue his labors, he was released to return home, and reached the Valley in September 1855. He died on 24 January 1892, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The George Christian Riser autobiography is a typescript account of a holographic work, written by George Christian Riser, titled "Tagebuch fur G.C.R.."

The account is divided into two sections. The first section contains a genealogical record of the family of George C. Riser. The record includes the names of his two wives, and his children. Also included are their birth, death, and baptismal dates, and the places where the above occurred.

The second section, which George C. Riser entitles "...a brief sketch of the circumstances concerning my life," is an autobiographical account. It covers his early life in Germany, the immigration and settlement in America with his parents, becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois. The record abruptly ends during the winter of 1846 at Council Bluffs, Iowa.

At the end of the typescript a biographical sketch has been appended. It is reported to be taken from Andrew Jenson's Biographical Encyclopedia.
