<p>The Juntura Committee was first proposed by the Committee on Committees in September 1971 and approved by the Faculty Council and University Faculty in October 1971. The purpose was to review periodically special goals and objectives and to recommend policies relative to students whose educational backgrounds had been hampered by cultural or economic environments. The term "Juntura" translated from Spanish means "to joint, to unite, to place together."</p>
