			<p>Dr. Francis Marion Ownbey (1910-1974) was a Professor in the Department of Botany at
				Washington State University from 1939 to 1974. Dr. Ownbey received his Bachelor's of
				Science and Master's of Science from the University of Wyoming, in 1935 and 1936
				respectively, and his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis in 1939. Dr.
				Ownbey became a well known botanist for his research on the new species Tragopogon,
				which led to receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship to study Tragopogon in its native
				habitat, and several international research trips. The WSU herbarium was renamed the
				Marion Ownbey Herbarium in 1974.</p>

	 	<p>This collection contains research materials of Dr. Francis Marion Ownbey (1910-1974),
	 		who was a Professor in the Department of Botany at Washington State University from 1939
	 		to 1974. The collection consists of research materials pertaining to Tragopogon, north
	 		Idaho weeds, Glen Canyon Plants, seed fertility, vascular plants of the Northwest, and
	 		plant collection in the Palouse. The collection contains notes, newspaper clippings,
	 		photographs and negatives, lantern slides, and copies of articles by Ownbey and other
	 		botanists. Additionally, the collection includes maps and graphs.</p>
