The study of Sociology first appears in course catalogues dating back to 1894, just two years after the first academic calendar. It was initially classified as an Economic Science and groups with classes such as political science and history, where they attempted to teach students about the problems of corporate industry. 1928 is the first appearance of the actual Department of Sociology. The goal of the Department of Sociology is to teach students about why social groups behave the way that they do and how inequality and human ecology affect society.

This collection consists of private student files from the Sociology Department from 1950-1980. Student files include gpa, personal correspondence, and personal student information.

This is an unprocessed collection. Any arrangement reflects either a pre-existing order from the records' creators or previous custodians, or preliminary sorting performed by staff.

All boxes contain student files that are clearly labeled and separated alphabetically. Boxes 1-4 contain files A-H. Boxes 5-8 contain files I-Z.

This collection includes confidential student records; use requires advance clearing with both the department and the student.
