Karl Signell field recordings (Greece) Signell, Karl 1968009 19 items EC - 8 reels (7 1/2 ips, tapes 1-2 apparently 4-tr. mono using only tracks 1 & 3, tapes 3-8 1/4 tr. stereo); WT - 11 reels (7 1/2 ips, 1/2 tr. stereo, 7" (7) and 10" (4)) 1968 Field recordings from the Island of Samothraki; northern Aegean Sea mainly.

Karl Signell is perhaps best known for his publications in Turkish music, especially "Makam: Modal practice in Turkish art music". He has done extensive field research in the U.S. and in more than a dozen countries abroad, including Turkey, Indonesia, and Japan.

Besides editing Ethnomusicology OnLine https://www.umbc.edu/eol/, his multimedia projects include other Web sites, CDs, CD-ROMs, and audio documentaries such as "The Nature of Music" series and "Music in a new world: America's ethnic traditions" series.

Each tape is a composite from various tapes in an extensive collection.
