Congregation Shevet Achim, a Mercer Island Orthodox-style traditional
congregation, began as the Eastside Minyan in 1988. In 1990, they changed their
name to the South Island Jewish Center and in 1996, their name changed again to
Congregation Shevet Achim. The rabbis serving the congregation have been Rabbi
Yitzchak Schwartz (1990-1994), Rabbi Gedalia Meyer (1994-1995), Rabbi Ephraim
Maoz (1995-1996), and Rabbi Yehezkel Kornfeld (1996- ).
