Ray Palmer Tracy (1886-1966) was born in West Charleston, Vermont. He spent his early years on a cattle ranch in northern California. He attended Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University), worked as a teamster, ranch hand, and forest ranger. He became an author of western stories and novels. He lived in Condon, Oregon.

The collection includes manuscripts and biographical material.

The manuscripts are organized alphabetically by title and are separated into novels and novelettes, short stories, and article sections. Material includes drafts, revised versions, correspondence, and manuscript fragments.

The biographical material includes an autobiographical series published in 1957, tearsheets, and clippings.
