professional organization of physicians in the state of WashingtonThe organization was founded as the Medical Society of the State of
Washington in 1889. The Association represents the interests of physicians in
matters of public policy and professional practice. It had a major role in
promoting the establishment of the medical school at the University of
Washington in 1945.
Minutes (photocopies) 1873-1950. Also present are files documenting a
history project for the state centennial in 1989. These include correspondence,
planning notes, drafts of book chapters, memoirs, transcripts from oral history
tapes, photographs, and ephemera. The history project material dates from 1981
to 1994, with the bulk from 1988 to 1991. There is also a subgroup with
correspondence and committee reports from the North Pacific Pediatric Society
(which later became the Washington State Pediatric Society) 1955-1983.
