 Biographical/Historical note

During its one hundred year history, Seattle University has held its graduation ceremony in a variety of Seattle locations, including: Providence Hospital Auditorium (1936-1939), Moore Theatre (1940-42), Seattle University Gymnasium (1948), New Armory (1949), Civic Auditorium (1950's), Seattle Center Arena (1962-1990's), Qwest Field (2000-2009), Key Arena (2010 to current).

The collection is open for research.

This collection contains commencement programs for Seattle College and Seattle University. The 1911, 1915, and 1916 commencements are represented with a photocopied invitation and program. Beginning in 1926 and accruing annually, each program is an original and begins listing the names of all graduates. By the 1950's the programs continue to list all graduates while adding awards, honorary degree recipients, and occasionally members of the Board of Regents and the Board of Trustees. This collection also includes a few supplement programs specific to student "Awards and Honors" by college (1962-68); scattered annual programs for baccalaureate mass, and a few commencement speeches: William P. Blatty, SJ (1974),William J. Sullivan, SJ (1996); and Timothy Eagan and Mark Pigott (2012). The collection is not comprehensive.
