  <bioghist encodinganalog="545"> 
  	<head>Biography of Sterling Fisher</head><p>Sterling Fisher (b. 1899) was a journalist whose career encompassed newspapers, broadcasting, and magazine work. He retired after 17 years with “The Reader’s Digest” in 1967, as director of public affairs. He had previously served as general manager for Asia. He was director of public affairs for the National Broadcasting Company (1942-1950), and served as broadcasting adviser to the State Department. From 1937-1942, he was director of education and radio talks for the Columbia Broadcasting System. He became editor of the New York Times in 1930 and covered events in Asia.</p>

  	<head>Scope and Content</head><p>This collection contains three scrapbooks. The first scrapbook is entitled “Sterling W. Fisher, President, The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, 1951-1952” and contains newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, addresses, invitations and the ACCJ Annual Report for 1952. The second scrapbook is entitled “New York Times Articles by Sterling W. Fisher, 1936-1950” and contains clippings about Japan. The third scrapbook is entitled “New York Times Articles by Sterling W. Fisher, 1932-1936” and contains clippings, a pamphlet on NBC’s “Church of the Air”; and a manuscript by Sterling Fisher entitled “Manchukuo, The Japanese Army’s Empire”.</p>
