<bioghist encodinganalog="545">

Paul S. Gentry (1954-2020) was a printmaker, painter, and mixed media artist. Gentry's works were inspired by realist printmakers active during the Great Depression (1929-1939). His works were exhibited in a variety of locations, including the Davidson Gallery in Seattle, Washington; the Newport Visual Arts Center in Newport, Oregon; Washington Printmakers Gallery in Washington, D.C.; and the International Print Center in New York, New York. Gentry's images were featured in works such as
The Art of Angling: Poems About Fishing
and
Shutter Lines
by Henry Hughes. He began specializing in woodblock prints in 2001, but continued to paint in acrylic and watercolor, and to create hand-built ceramics.

Gentry was born in Decatur, Illinois, and his family moved often to locations in Idaho and Oregon. He lived for several years in Seattle, working for Daniel Smith, an art supply manufacturer. In 1998, he moved with his then-wife, Peggy Ashcroft, to a rural property outside Monmouth, Oregon. He joined the River Gallery in 1999 and exhibited there the remainder of his life. He was known as a self-taught intellectual.
