      <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">Karl "Jake" Jacobson was a professional ski racer and gelande jumper. This collection contains images of Jacobson' career, particularly his participation in Alta Gelande competitions, dating from approximately the 1970s through 1980s.</abstract>

    <bioghist encodinganalog="5450_">
      <p>Karl "Jake" Jacobson grew up skiing, ski racing, and gelande jumping at Solitude Ski Area from 1965-1974. In 1969, Solitude held their first Gelande competition, which Jacobson, his mother and stepfather, and siblings and stepsiblings all participated in, either by organizing or competing. Jacobson attended the University of Utah where he was a member of the Ski Team. Jacobson raced professionally, and was a professional Gelande jumper. In 1989, Jacobson won the National Gelande Championships held at Alta. In 1980, Jacobson began working as a member of the Jans Alpine Ski Testing Team for Jans Mountain Outfitters.</p>

      <p>The Karl and Vicki Beck Jacobson photograph collection consists of 2 boxes containing 9 color photographs dating from approximately the 1970s through the 1980s. Box 1 contains 7 color photographs of Jacobson and a group of young ski competitors at Alta, Utah. Box 2 contains oversized color photographs of Jacobson competing in the Grand Targhee Gelande in 1980.</p>
