      <p>Henry R. Herold spent most of his working life with the City of Seattle. He began work for the City as a junior draftsman in 1927. He advanced through positions of Junior Civil Engineer, Associate Civil Engineer, Senior Civil Design Engineer, Supervising Senior Water Engineer, and Principal Engineer at the Seattle Water Department from which he retired in 1968.</p>

      <p>Contained in this collection are photos of Herold's retirement party, photographs at various work sites throughout his career, group staff portraits with identified City employees (two showing Lawton Gowey among the accounting staff), letters of recognition from Mayors Braman and Pomeroy, City Council Member Bob Jones, and U.S. Representative Pelly as well as five service recognition certificates signed by various City Council Presidents. Other photos include the 1954 opening of Cedar River Pipe Line No 4 at Bow Lake Reservoir with Seafair Queen, Tolt Project, Landsburg, as well as interiors of City engineering offices.</p>
