Hempstead was an alumnus of University of Oregon where he participated  in forensics and debate, including the first around-the-world debate tour in 1927-1928. This collection primarily contains material related to Walter E. Hempstead and the 1927-1928 University of Oregon World Debate Tour, including scrapbooks, news clippings, correspondence, programs, ephemera, and posters documenting the World Tour.</abstract>

      <p>This collection primarily contains material related to Walter E. Hempstead and the 1927-1928 University of Oregon World Debate Tour, including scrapbooks, news clippings, correspondence, programs, ephemera, and posters documenting the World Tour.</p>
      <p>It also contains biographical material by and about Hempstead, as well as programs and clippings that document Hempstead's career teaching and coaching debate at University of Oregon, including the Pacific Basin Debate Tour in 1931-32.</p>
      <p>The collection also contains some additional posters and ephemera broadly related to twentieth-century debate and forensics activities at University of Oregon, that were likely collected and added by University Archives staff and may be unrelated to Hempstead.</p>
