<p>Maureen Daly was born in County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland in 1921 and grew up in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. She attended Rosary College and began her writing career as a teenage reporter for the Chicago Tribune. She married William P. McGivern (a writer) in 1946. Daly became an author of fiction, but also continued to write nonfiction for newspapers and magazines and also compiled and edited collections of short stories by other authors.
