The Gold Cup race, an Unlimited Hydroplane race on Lake Washington, was part of the annual Seafair festival in Seattle. Hydroplanes are motorboats whose weight is supported through planing forces rather than simple buoyancy. The boats are designed to travel at high speeds (record breaking speeds have topped 300 mph). The aviation industry has been the source of engines for these boats.

Negatives from Gold Cup and Seafair Trophy Races. Photographs appear to be attributed to Seattle Post-Intelligencer photographers including Bob Miller, Dave Potts, Tolman, Webber, Brownell, and others.
