The Steve Raymond Papers consist of various writings by a
life-long fly fisherman and acclaimed author of works exploring the many facets of the
sport. The collection also includes correspondence, records of Raymond's professional
affiliations, and biographical reference material about other noted fly
fishermen.

Life-long fly fisherman and acclaimed author of works exploring the many facets of the
sport, Steve Raymond was born in 1940 in Bellingham, Washington. A graduate of the
University of Washington, he went on to a long career as a journalist for the Seattle Times. In addition to books, Raymond has been a major
contributor of articles and book reviews to angling magazines, and served as editor of The Flyfisher and Fly Fishing in Salt
Waters magazines. He has won many awards including the Roderick Haig-Brown Award of
the Federation of Fly Fishers and the Letcher Lambuth Angling Craftsman Award of the
Washington Fly Fishing Club.
The Steve Raymond papers consist of drafts and final manuscript versions of works by
Raymond, including Kamloops, The Year of
the Angler, The Year of the Trout, The Estuary Flyfisher, Rivers of the
Heart, Blue Upright, Backcasts, Nervous Water, and Steelhead Country. Other writings include book forwards and reviews, magazine and
newspaper articles about local fly fishing organizations, issues and personalities, and
contributions to various fly fishing encyclopedias. The collection also contains
correspondence with various individuals and publishing outlets such as Sports Illustrated. There are records related to Raymond's professional
affiliations, including the Washington Fly Fishing Club, as well as files containing
biographical reference material and awards conferred upon various noted fly fishermen.
