publications and clippings of UW professor and zoologistPatricia Louise Dudley was born in Denver, Colorado on May 22, 1929.
She earned her B.A. at the University of Colorado in 1951 and her M.A. (1953)
and Ph.D. (1957) degrees in Biology at the University of Washington, where she
studied invertebrate zoology, marine biology, and copepoda under Professor Paul
L. Illg. Dudley continued to work at the University of Washington, first as a
research associate between 1957 and 1959 and later as an instructor in marine
invertebrate zoology at the Friday Harbor Labs during the summers of 1960 and
1961. She first joined the faculty at Barnard College in 1959 and initially
served as a instructor in biological science until 1962. She was later named
Assistant Professor (1962-1967), Associate Professor (1967-1973), and Professor
(1973-). In 1979, she was named as the Chair of the Biological Sciences
department.
Professor Dudley has published a large number of articles and
monographs on the subject of the biology of copepoda, many of which were
researched and written together with Paul L. Illg, her former advisor at the
University of Washington. She also spent two years (1969, 1971) working as an
investigator in the Systematics Ecology Program at Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institute's Marine Biology Lab and served as a National Science Foundation
faculty fellow between 1965 and 1966. Professor Dudley also has held
professional memberships in the American Institute of Biological Science,
American Society of Zoologists (Secretary of the Invertebrate Biology section
1973-1976), Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, American
Microscopical Society, and the Environmental Defense Fund.
