This collection contains personal records related to George Pal and his work, as well as film material for Doc Savage, and Logan’s Run.
Biography of George Pal
George Pal was an animator, film director and producer associated with the fantasy and science fiction genres. He was born in Hungary February 1, 1908, and lived and worked all over Europe before emigrating to the United States in December of 1939.
He and his wife, Elisabeth “Zsoka” Pal had two sons. Pal died in May of 1980 in California.
Pal patented the “Pal-Doll Technique” between 1931 and 1933 while living in Berlin and working for UFA Studios. This technique was known as “Puppetoons” in the U.S. George would later release an animated series with the same name.
This 1940s series led to an honorary Oscar in 1943. In 1950, George switched to live-action films, producing
The Great Rupert. Pal is best known for his string of sci-fi and fantasy films made in the 1950s-1960s, such as When Worlds Collide.
He collaborated with Byron Haskin, as well as producing films solo. His final film was Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze released in 1975.
Scope and Content
This collection contains biographical papers related to George Pal, such as awards and a biography. Also included are materials for two of his works,
Doc Savage (1975), and Logan’s Run (1968). Included are scripts, correspondence, production material and promotional material for each film.
There are no access restrictions on the materials for research purposes,
and the collection is open to the public.
