American traders and settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries. Dr. Zenk is a
consultant and instructor in the Chinuk Wawa language program at Grande Ronde
Confederated Tribes, Oregon.

the source for "Upper Umpqua texts in English, with some native forms, by
Elizabeth D. Jacobs" in the Melville Jacobs papers which Zenk believes to be a
non-Upper Umpqua speaker, Jennie Riggs, rather than "Mrs. Jerden?" as the
notebook lists.
