      <head>Historical Note</head>
      <p>A branch of the Northern Pacific Railroad reached Pullman, Whitman County, Wash. in 1890.
        Located in the southern part of the great Palouse wheat growing region, Pullman benefited
        from railroad competition to build branch lines to tap the wheat production.</p>

      <p>The collection consists of very framentary correspondence from the files of the Northern
        Pacific Railway local agent in Pullman. The business discussed is routine, relating mainly
        to passenger questions and freight shipments, 1911-1916.</p>
